Life is Good

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Which may be why posting is light. Son of dub stopped by to visit and take a shower (people next door moved out, and the gas company turned off his service by mistake, no hot water) and visit for a bit. My daughter gave us a bunch of veggies from her garden, including my favorite, Green Beans.
My wife and I are in the middle of a game called Rummy 10,000. Sort of like Rummy 500, but it takes a few days. We have the cards and scoresheet on the table and play a hand or two after dinner, or before we go out shopping, etc. It breaks up the day and adds a little fun. I am currently losing my ass. Down by around 200 or so.

So it’s hard to bitch when you have the world by the ass.

The Weekend

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

First, I made the mistake yesterday of refusing assistance when putting the tiller in the car. So I will be doing the ice packs, and popping ibuprofen like Good and Plentys for part of the weekend.
The Bourne Ultimatum is out. I will be there.
Wife wants to rent jet skis this weekend, I do not, but I usually lose this type of discussion.

Anyone doing anything good? Family reunions, pub crawls, going to the races?

The Smell of Desperation

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Channel 4 reported last night (and has no link to the story this morning) that the Army is adding a further cash incentive to new recruits in order to meet recruiting goals. Under the “Quick Ship” program, those who enlist now and agree to ship out within I think 30 days, will receive a bonus of Twenty THousand Dollars.
Whatever happened to the droves of new recruits that appeared after 9/11?
I guess we’re running out of bodies.
No other reports of the other services offering this type of money for recruits.
