The Weekend

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Great start. My sister in law had an extra ticket so tonight I will be down at HSBC for all the fun and excitement!
Tomorrow we leave for PA to visit my son. A little tourist action in Philly, and home on Monday.
Hope you all have an excellent weekend!

According to my In-Laws:

It’s Jello shots.
According to Dad, She was shooting them 3 at a time. Those Irish, I tell ya. My Wife says that’s called “multi-tasking”

Question for the Ladies

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Not “What’s your Sign”, but “What the Hell??”
I went to Morrissey’s for the debate last night. Great crowd, a lot of energy. It makes me feel good to see people taking an interest in politics. As expected, the pretty much pro-Obama crowd gave cheers to Biden and jeers to Palin.
But the jeers?
By far the women in the crowd were the most vocal. Loud, angry, at times almost vitriolic. At one point I said to the woman next to me as I pointed to the screen “See, we let you vote and this is what happens” She punched me in the chest. I shudder to think what might have happened if she thought I was serious.

Where does this anger come from? What specifically causes this reaction as soon as Governor Palin starts to speak? I can understand if you disagree with her opinions, her platform, whatever. But the reaction I saw last night was much stronger than that. Do women really think that she is creating that much of a negative image?
Or is it that annoying accent?

Today

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Today there will be much financial gnashing of teeth. Speculation will run rampant as to why the bailout tanked, what the market is going to do as a result. The “Meltdown” will be the topic no matter where you go.
Today I’m pretty relaxed. Good sleep, good coffee. Know where all my family members are. I know that they are all reasonably healthy, sheltered, and fed.
I know that I will not be worrying over something which I have no control over. That will not improve the situation, and the frustration over not being able to do something only worsens the day. Concern? Perhaps. But it will not consume me. Today will be a good day.

Condensed version, it’s garbage day and I’m running late:
Tonight join the politically conscious at Cole’s on Elmwood for the first of WNYM’s Presidential Debate Parties!

Saturday: Oktoberfest. Terminal. 6 - Midnight. Be there.

Sunday. Bills.

Now to the garbage.
Have a great weekend one and all…

Dear Wallstreet:

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I really wish I could help you out, but I’m kinda short right now. Maybe you should give these guys a call. I hear they are pretty good at this sort of thing.
Best of luck,
Pauldub

Tis the Season

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I noticed during my ride to work Thursday that the leaves are turning in Buckhorn Park. Yesterday on our day off (besides helping her sister replace the toilet that exploded) we started to get rid of the potted annuals that are now expiring. I am starting to pick pumpkins in fields behind my house.
My wife is cooking down the tomatoes from the garden so we can make Chili tonight.
The 75 degree forecast for today will help in getting the rest of the yard work done, and perhaps facilitate an attempt at putting the canoe up in the garage.
And tailgating tomorrow!
Fall has its own set of chores, and I don’t mind them one bit.

An Outsider’s View

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Another department at work had some training going on last week with participants from around the country. During a break, there was a gentleman out in the hallway on his phone.
“Yeah, I can’t believe this place. You should see the architecture”
“The parks are amazing. I’ve never been here before, but it is beautiful”
“No, no. I’m staying in the Falls. I’m talking about Buffalo
No prodding, no cheerleading from the locals. Just went out to see the sights, and came back impressed.
Nice to hear, eh what?

The Weekend

Tough week, glad it’s over.
The crappy weather forecast bothers me not.
Agenda? Of course my favorite, grocery shopping. Weather gets too crappy I can make Lasagna, meatless of course. Music is Art, or UB football depending on the weather.
After the Big Sunday Breakfast, the Bills game. Any suggestions on a good place to watch?
I used to go to Slick Willy’s on the Boulevard, but when they bring out the free halftime buffet, the crowd becomes a plague of angry locusts, pretty risky.
And a Happy Birthday tomorrow to Jason from Buffalo Homecoming!

Why I Hate WNED

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I understand that they relay on our donations for their livelihood, BUT….
I rushed like hell to get stuff done so I could park my butt in front of Channel 17’s special about Crystal Beach. 20 minutes, then on come the hucksters. Begging for money, offering postcards, DVD’s, suckers, even refrigerator magnets. Stratton trying to talk over Eileen(?) trying to talk over Stratton. Worst part? he’s not from the area. So every sentence is prefaced by”And somebody else told me” WHY CAN”T THEY JUST SHUT UP AND LET ME WATCH THE SHOW?
Now it’s back on. So up I go for 15 minutes more of show, then more shameless begging.
