Ben Bernanke - Genius

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

First, the fear of recession. Cure? Interest Rate cuts. Didn’t work.
Then the house of cards known as Wall street finally tanks due to the greed and incompetence both there and on “Main Street”. Cure? Bailout that mortgages the future of our children’s children. And it doesn’t seem to be having the desired effect.
Bernanke’s possible solution?
Interest Rate Cut!
Been there, done that, didn’t work. Rate is now what, 2%? You can only go so much lower guy.
Instead of bailing , how about consequences for incompetence and greed? Let them fail, let them foreclose.
BTW, the crawl on my television is saying that Russia closed its stock market due to “rough trading”, and Britain is considering nationalizing its largest bank. I guess misery loves company.

Tinfoil GOP

Monday, September 29th, 2008

During the past week, I had two theories put to me by individuals whose political views fall to the right of center. I’m pretty sure these are a bit of a stretch, hence the “Tinfoil on the head” reference.
1. McCain does not want the job - Started the primary campaign from force of habit, stayed on hoping for matching funds. After he obtained the status of presumptive nominee, he realized that this is a little more than what he bargained for. He knows that “bomb, bomb Iran” is going to come back and bite him in the ass. The AARP discount at Burger King instead of White House luncheons with Spain’s head of state is starting to look pretty good. So he picks a V.P. that he hopes will be a boat anchor around his neck, plays angry old man in the debate, and hopes that he gets buried.

2.The GOP does not want the job - They know that Dubya has pretty well screwed the country into the ground. Iraq, Afghanistan. They know they will take the heat for Wall Street fiasco. They also theorize that the next Commander in Chief has a snowball’s chance in Hell of setting any of the problems right in the next 4 years. Next prez is going to be a one term wonder. So why not give it to the Dems? When they can’t make everything hunky dory, we can just say “We told you they couldn’t do it, come back to us and we’ll fix everything”.
They finagle a candidate who got beat up by his own party 4 years ago. They give him a caricature for a V.P. And they hope to get buried. Planned. Loss.

I’ll keep you posted if I hear any more good ones.

The Weekend

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Condensed version, it’s garbage day and I’m running late:
Tonight join the politically conscious at Cole’s on Elmwood for the first of WNYM’s Presidential Debate Parties!

Saturday: Oktoberfest. Terminal. 6 - Midnight. Be there.

Sunday. Bills.

Now to the garbage.
Have a great weekend one and all…

Creature of Habit

Sunday mornings, A hearty breakfast and the morning paper. Front section, sports, comics, ads, in that order, every morning. Big pot of coffee. Breakfast? Has to be on this plate:

Eggs over easy, 2 vegetarian sausage patties, home fries (normal, sweet potato, or combination thereof)

If you’ll notice the toast is on the side because the potatoes take up all the room.
Breakfast. The most important meal of the day.

Whatever Happened to Semi-civility?

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

When a simple post on Pundit’s site garners over 60 comments, it’s a sure bet that it quickly devolved into a fecal flinging fun fest.
I hate to sound like the old guy on the park bench complaining that the world is going to hell in a Longaberger, but can’t anyone stay on topic anymore? Wishing families would “eat shit and die”?
Makes me long for the days of Hank & Haterade. At least they could go at it without sounding like the angry drunk at the corner of the bar that spits when he yells incoherently at you.

Fun Times

To start off, Son of Dub is up on a school break.

That is a 1986 Plymouth Conquest (read rebranded Mitsubishi Starion). Mint condition. Even the maroon crushed velour interior.
Worked in the yard with my beloved, went to a friend’s party in Kenmore that was most enjoyable.
Did the draw for the home games with the brother in law. I only miss the Jets and the Browns (of course Miami).
Jets? Meh. As for the Browns, I don’t do Monday night games. Interferes with bowling.
So, a good weekend even if I didn’t make the Garden Walk.

A little something worth watching

Come join us celebrate our Buffalo. I’ll be there, and I hope you will too.

Democratic Leaders Back Media Darling

Friday, April 18th, 2008

In a less than surprising move, Lenihan & Co. endorsed Frank “I wanna be on TV’ Clark. It seems that his face is constantly on the tube. Usually to give odd explanations on why his office gave a less than stellar performance in one way or another. I guess Lenihan thinks that this position does not need a fresh infusion of competence.
In other breaking news, the Executive Committee also endorsed Antoine Thompson. I have seen that he has appeared a number of times in both Niagara Falls and Buffalo. His constituents that live outside of the cities don’t know what he looks like, but what the heck.

Let’s do Lunch

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Or Happy Hour. Or something. The Blogger Christmas party didn’t quite get off the ground. Rumors and promises only for January. So let’s make this easy. Follow this, and be at the next Tweetup. The first one at the brewpub was a good time, and I imagine the next one will not disappoint either!
Bowling shirts optional. I will have to decide which one - might have to break in a new one….
